Introduction

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reveals one continuous story: God manifesting Himself to humanity through Jesus Christ. Though many associate Jesus primarily with the New Covenant, Scripture shows that Christ was active long before Bethlehem. The supernatural thread of His presence weaves through the Old Covenant and reaches its fullness in the New Covenant through incarnation, resurrection, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

The manifestation of Jesus Christ is not merely historical—it is spiritual, eternal, and supernatural. He is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, the visible image of the invisible God, and the divine bridge between heaven and earth.

Christ Revealed in the Old Covenant

The Eternal Word Before Incarnation

Jesus did not begin in the manger. The Gospel of John declares:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Before He became flesh, Christ existed eternally with the Father. Throughout the Old Testament, He appeared in supernatural manifestations often called “theophanies” or “Christophanies”—visible appearances of the pre-incarnate Christ.

These encounters revealed the coming Redeemer long before Israel understood His fullness.

The Supernatural Appearances of Christ

The Voice in the Garden

In Eden, after Adam and Eve sinned, God walked in the garden seeking humanity. Even in judgment, the promise of redemption appeared:

“The seed of the woman shall bruise the serpent’s head.”

This prophetic declaration pointed toward Jesus Christ defeating Satan through the Cross.

Melchizedek: A Mysterious Priestly Manifestation

Melchizedek appeared suddenly to Abraham as king and priest without genealogy or recorded beginning or end. He became a supernatural foreshadowing of Christ’s eternal priesthood.

The Old Covenant priesthood would later pass away, but Christ’s priesthood remains forever.

The Fourth Man in the Fire

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace, a supernatural figure appeared among them.

“The fourth looks like the Son of God.”

In the midst of persecution and fire, Christ manifested as divine protection and presence.

The Commander of the Lord’s Army

Joshua encountered a heavenly warrior with a drawn sword before Jericho fell. This was no ordinary angel. Joshua fell in worship, and the ground became holy.

This supernatural manifestation revealed Christ as the Captain of Heaven’s armies, leading His people into victory.

Shadows and Types Pointing to Christ

The Old Covenant was filled with supernatural symbols that pointed toward Jesus.

The Passover Lamb

Israel was delivered through the blood of a spotless lamb placed upon the doorposts. Death passed over every house covered by blood.

This was a prophetic picture of Jesus—the true Lamb of God whose blood delivers humanity from eternal death.

The Manna from Heaven

In the wilderness, supernatural bread descended daily from heaven to sustain Israel.

Jesus later declared:

“I am the bread of life.”

The manna was temporary; Christ is eternal nourishment for the soul.

The Rock in the Wilderness

Moses struck the rock, and supernatural water flowed out to quench the thirst of the people.

The Apostle Paul revealed:

“That Rock was Christ.”

Even in Israel’s wilderness journey, Jesus was spiritually present.

The Full Manifestation in the New Covenant

The Word Became Flesh

The greatest supernatural event in human history occurred when eternity entered time.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

Jesus was not merely a prophet or teacher. He was God manifested in human form. Heaven touched earth through incarnation.

The Old Covenant contained shadows; the New Covenant revealed the substance.

Supernatural Ministry of Jesus

Every miracle of Christ revealed the Kingdom of God breaking into the natural world.

  • The blind received sight.

  • The dead were raised.

  • Storms obeyed His voice.

  • Demons trembled before Him.

  • Water became wine.

  • Multitudes were fed supernaturally.

These miracles were not performances; they were manifestations of divine authority.

Jesus demonstrated what life under the dominion of heaven looks like.

The Cross: The Supernatural Exchange

At Calvary, the supernatural power of redemption unfolded.

Darkness covered the earth. The veil in the temple tore from top to bottom. Sin, death, and separation were confronted through the sacrifice of Christ.

The Cross became the meeting place of justice and mercy.

Under the Old Covenant, sacrifices temporarily covered sin. Under the New Covenant, Jesus permanently removed it.

Resurrection Power

The resurrection was the ultimate manifestation of supernatural victory.

Death could not hold Christ because He is life itself. Through resurrection:

  • Satan was defeated.

  • The grave lost its authority.

  • Humanity received access to eternal life.

The risen Christ became the firstborn of a new creation.

The Holy Spirit and the Continuing Manifestation of Christ

Pentecost: Heaven Invades Earth

Under the Old Covenant, the Spirit came upon selected individuals temporarily. Under the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit indwells believers permanently.

At Pentecost, fire descended from heaven, and ordinary men became supernatural witnesses.

The Spirit now reveals Christ within His people.

Christ Manifested Through the Church

The New Covenant believer becomes a vessel of divine presence.

Jesus declared:

“Greater works than these shall you do.”

The supernatural ministry of Christ continues through:

  • Healing

  • Prophecy

  • Deliverance

  • Miracles

  • Spiritual discernment

  • Divine love

  • Transformation

The Church is not merely an organization; it is the Body through which Christ manifests Himself in the earth.

From Shadow to Substance

The transition from Old Covenant to New Covenant is the movement from prophecy to fulfillment.

Old Covenant

New Covenant

Shadow

Substance

Animal sacrifice

Perfect Lamb

External law

Internal transformation

Temporary priesthood

Eternal High Priest

Limited access

Open access to God

Spirit upon people

Spirit within people

Everything in the Old Covenant pointed toward Jesus. Everything in the New Covenant flows from Jesus.

The Supernatural Reality Today

Jesus Christ is still manifesting Himself supernaturally today.

He reveals Himself:

  • Through salvation

  • Through miracles

  • Through dreams and visions

  • Through the Holy Spirit

  • Through transformed lives

  • Through divine encounters

  • Through His Word

The same Christ who walked with Adam, appeared in the fire, and rose from the grave is alive now.

The supernatural is not merely an event—it is the manifestation of the living Christ among His people.

Conclusion

The Bible is the unfolding revelation of Jesus Christ from beginning to end. The Old Covenant concealed Him in shadows, symbols, and prophetic encounters. The New Covenant unveiled Him fully through incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and the indwelling Holy Spirit.

From the burning bush to the empty tomb, from Sinai to Pentecost, Scripture testifies that Jesus Christ is the supernatural manifestation of God’s redemptive love.

He is the Alpha and the Omega, the One who was, who is, and who is to come.
